Using AI in your job search while keeping your record accurate

AI can help turn rough notes into a readable application or generate practice interview questions. Its suggestions are useful only when grounded in your actual experience and the real vacancy. You remain responsible for the information sent under your name.

Editorial review: 16 October 2026

Give it a bounded task

Start with a factual career outline and a vacancy whose source you have checked. Ask for a comparison between requirements and documented experience, separating clear matches from missing evidence. For example, request a shorter explanation of a project without adding achievements. Keep original dates, employers, qualifications and language levels in a reference record against which you can review the output.

Limit the data you share

Remove passport numbers, private addresses, referee contact details and confidential client information from prompts. Check the service's storage, training and deletion settings before using personal material. Redaction should preserve enough context for the task while reducing exposure. A public job advertisement may still contain instructions or claims that require your own judgement. Treat generated legal, permit and salary statements as questions to verify with authoritative sources.

Review for meaning and usability

Compare every paragraph with your evidence. Look for inflated responsibility, invented metrics and translations that overstate a qualification. Read the letter aloud and practise explaining each claim naturally in an interview. Check the final file and any portal fields after export. Use AI-generated interview questions to rehearse specific examples, then revise answers yourself. Keep a record of the actual version submitted so later preparation reflects what the employer received.
