Why Switzerland & regions
Choose a Swiss region around your working week
The best region is the one where a plausible job and a sustainable routine meet. Start with your constraints, then compare a small number of places with different strengths.

Draw a career and language map
Mark employers relevant to your occupation and the languages used in their actual vacancies. Separate an English-speaking team from the language needed for customers, administration and daily life. German predominates across much of northern and central Switzerland, French in the west and Italian in Ticino. Several cantons are multilingual, so investigate the municipality and workplace rather than relying on the canton’s label.
Compare complete home bases
Pick three possible residential areas and build the same weekly schedule for each: work, school or childcare, shopping and leisure. Measure door-to-door travel, including changes and the final walk. A nearby town may improve space or access to relatives; a central flat may reduce transport needs. Check current housing listings and insurance quotations before deciding which option is affordable for your household.
Test the landscape in everyday conditions
Lakefront, plateau and mountain settings produce different routines. Visit during an ordinary working week and, if possible, outside your favourite season. Check winter daylight at the property, slopes on walking routes and transport after evening activities. Rank your options using a few agreed priorities, such as career depth, partner employment and time outdoors. Keep a second viable region available while applications are ongoing.
