Choose industries using actual vacancy evidence
Switzerland has substantial service industries alongside pharmaceuticals, chemicals, machinery, electrical engineering and watchmaking. These established activities describe the economy. To decide where to apply today, connect them with current advertisements for your particular skills, language level and working arrangements.

Start with your transferable function
A maintenance specialist can serve several industries; a finance analyst can work outside banking. List the problems you solve, the tools you use and the environments you understand. Then search those functions across two or three sectors. This connects your experience with specific tasks and a realistic selection of employers.
Compare recent, relevant openings
For each sector, collect a small sample of dated vacancies from employers and job portals. Record location, experience, language, qualification requirements and contract type. Remove duplicates and distinguish recruitment agencies from the ultimate employer. An industry cluster can include production, research and administration, each with a different hiring profile. Treat the resulting sample as a search snapshot rather than a measure of the whole labour market.
Choose the next experiment
Select a primary sector with strong skill overlap and a secondary sector requiring a manageable adjustment. For regulated work, establish recognition requirements before investing in applications. Set a short review period and track qualified replies alongside the number of submissions. If suitable openings remain scarce, broaden adjacent functions or commuting areas before committing to expensive retraining or relocation.
